Romeo Brawner Jr. is a Filipino military officer who serves as the Commanding General of the Philippine Army since December 7, 2021.[1]

Education

A native of Kiangan, Ifugao, Romeo Brawner Jr. attended the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) graduating as part of the Makatao class of 1989.[2] He is also a Special Forces and an Airborne trooper by training.[3]

Career

Brawner became part of the Philippine Army of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). His participated in operations involving the Communist and Moro conflicts in the Philippines.

He was part of Task Force Ranao as its spokesperson and deputy commander which fought in the Marawi siege of 2017.[4][5] Brawner would be conferred a Commendation Medal and Ribbon by the AFP in October 2020 for his role in the Marawi siege.[6]He also took command of the 103rd Infantry Brigade in 2018, which is tasked to deal with the remnants of the ISIL-inspired Maute group which occupied Marawi.[7]

In 2019, Brawner assumed the role of Commandant of Cadets in the PMA after the military academy got involved in a hazing scandal.[4][8]

In July 1, 2021, Brawner took command of the Army's 4th Infantry Division, which is in charge of counterinsurgency operations in Northern Mindanao and Caraga regions. His feat including overseeing the military operations on October 31, 2021 in Bukidnon which led to the death of communist leader Jorge Madlos, spokesperson of the New People's Army National Operational Command and the National Democratic Front in Mindanao.[4]

President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Brawner as the Commanding General of the Philippine Army on December 7, 2021, succeeding Andres Centino who was appointed as Chief of Staff of the armed forces.[4]
