Suster was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and attended St. Joseph High School. He received his bachelor's degree at Case Western Reserve University and a J.D. from the same institution. [1]

From 1995 until 2012, Suster was a judge on the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas General Division.[2]
