Samuel A. Shelton

Samuel Azariah Shelton (September 3, 1858 – September 13, 1948) was a Republican United States Representative from Missouri.

Born near Waterloo, Alabama, Shelton moved with his widowed mother to Webster County, Missouri in 1869. He attended Mountain Dale Academy, Seymour High School and Marshfield High School. He later taught school.

He engaged in agricultural pursuits from 1881–1930. He served as clerk of the circuit court of Webster County in 1895–1899. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1901 and commenced practice in Marshfield, Missouri. He served as Postmaster of Marshfield from 1906–1910. He served as prosecuting attorney of Webster County from 1914–1916 and chaired the Republican county committee for four terms.

Shelton was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1921 – March 3, 1923). He declined to be a candidate for reelection. He resumed the practice of law in Marshfield, Missouri, where he died September 13, 1948. He was interred in Marshfield Cemetery.
