Biography

Lipstate was born in 1983 or 4 in Birmingham.[2] At age 2, she moved with her family to Lafayette, Louisiana.[3] At school she played piano and trombone; at the age of 17, inspired by no wave, she switched to guitar. Her first guitar was a Danelectro. While still a student of Radio, Television & Film at University of Texas at Austin, she performed with Glenn Branca's Guitar Army. She received her bachelor's degree in 2006.

In 2007, Lipstate moved to Brooklyn. A few months later, a mutual friend from Austin introduced her to the members of Parts & Labor who were looking for a guitarist.[4] After a successful audition Lipstate went on tour with the band, including SXSW. In July 2009 she left the band and started her solo project under the name Noveller. That same year she released two solo albums on the No Fun Productions label.

In 2016, Lipstate supported Iggy Pop during his Post Pop Depression tour. Three years later, she was one of the main contributors to Pop's album Free.
