Notable events

Seeing Red Nebraska uploaded a photograph of a defaced Jeff Fortenberry campaign sign on Facebook in 2018 in which Fortenberry's name had been changed to "Fartenberry" and googly eyes had been applied to the picture of his face.[2][3] A Fortenberry staff member who had seen the image made a phone call to University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) faculty member Ari Kohen because Kohen had liked the image of the defaced sign. Kohen viewed the phone call as a threat.[2] The defaced sign and a recording of the call were shared widely on the internet, and were broadcast on the TV show Last Week Tonight.[4][5] Kohen is listed as a Seeing Red Nebraska staff member.[6] Seeing Red Nebraska wrote that Fortenberry's overreaction to events on Facebook demonstrated "men are afraid women will laugh at them," a quote by Margaret Atwood.[1]

Seeing Red Nebraska led a campaign called Leave LIBA in 2019. The campaign, which was at first anonymous, opposed the Lincoln Independent Business Association (LIBA) because of the actions of their conservative political action committee, including their support of Lincoln mayoral candidate Cyndi Lamm.[7]

Contributors

The blog lists a staff of eight.[6] Several are faculty at UNL, including Amanda Gailey.[7]

Seeing Red Nebraska publishes outside contributions. For example, the blog published a criticism written by a local school teacher about her school district's choice to hire a consultant firm which she felt had a questionable track record.[8]
