Early life
Serious Truth was a graffiti artist from his early teens until he got sent to reform school for vandalism. He was sent to the Academy at Ivy Ridge at age 14, where he played a minor role in the 2005 Riot at Ivy Ridge.[2] At the academy, Serious Truth started his transition from graffiti artist to becoming a songwriter, producer, multimedia and recording artist.
Music career
Aggravated Mayhem
Aggravated Mayhem was a hip-hop group from the North Shore (Massachusetts) established in June 2009, founded by Serious Truth and his cousins William and Jonathan Chadwick upon their release from prison.[3] During the summer of 2009 they recorded an album titled "Not Guilty", which was released by Serious Truth on YouTube at some point during mid 2012. Aggravated Mayhem split up as a music group in June 2010 upon the incarceration of William and Jonathan. They reunited briefly upon their release in 2014 to record a 3 song EP titled "Posted Up". After the split up, Serious Truth went on to resurrect the name as the CEO of Aggravated Mayhem Records.[4]
Record Production & Song Features
Serious Truth went on to work with notable hip hop acts such as Layzie Bone,[5] Buckwild, Reks, and Termanology[6] as well as producing music for Krumbsnatcha after his stint with Aggravated Mayhem. In 2011, he was a guest featured vocalist on a song titled "Truth Hurts" by Krumbsnatcha, Reks and Termanology. In 2012, he was a guest featured vocalist on a song titled "The Show" by Ryan K and Layzie Bone from Bone Thugs-n-Harmony.
In June 2018, he released an instrumental LP titled Means of Production.
Serious Truth has also been known to have his music played on DJ Premier's radio show on Sirius XM.[7]
Collaboration with Sean Price
In late 2014 Serious Truth and Sean Price began working on an album together.[8] With only two songs finished on the album,[9] Sean Price passed away in his sleep on the morning of August 8, 2015.
Feud with Talib Kweli
In June 2018, Talib Kweli and Serious Truth entered into an intense and widely publicized feud with one another concerning the political state of the U.S.A., identity based political movements, pop culture, Class consciousness, and the division of the population over trivial ideological differences. What started as intellectual discourse quickly spiraled into seven straight weeks of personal Ad hominem attacks, Doxing, threats and the involvement of both artists fan bases. The feud eventually spilled over onto social media outlets[10] such as Instagram and Twitter, where celebrities such as Lil Scrappy, Ruste Juxx, Pete Rock, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, and Busta Rhymes, among others, joined in on the argument. The feud was eventually put to rest in mid July 2018 with the assistance of Charles Hamilton (rapper), a mutual friend of both Kweli and Serious Truth.
Cultural Revolution
Blaq Poet and Serious Truth released their collaborative album Cultural Revolution on November 3, 2020.[11] In the wake of the George Floyd killing at the hands of the police, they released the first single off of the album called "Wake Up (Revolt!)".[12] On July 7, 2020 they released a follow-up single called "Heavy Industry" featuring John Jiggs.[13] They released two subsequent singles in September and October respectively, called "Man on a Mission"[14] and "Born and Raised".[15] The album was inspired by current events and focuses on returning to the original cultural standards and roots of hip hop. Cultural Revolution has become a cult classic among DJs & hip hop fans alike and has amassed 120,000 streams across all platforms, as well as frequently finding its way onto radio stations in the UK, Germany, Belgium and the USA.[7][14]
Controversial
Charles Hamilton and Serious Truth released their collaborative album Controversial[16] on May 25, 2021, to generally positive reviews.[17][18] As well as designing the cover art, Serious Truth also played the electronic piano, synth, bass and drum machine on this project.
Solo Work
Serious Truth released his first non-instrumental solo album in 2013 titled "Masshole". On June 6, 2018 he released another album titled "Means of Production", which is a mix of sampled instrumentals and songs with lyrics, including a guest appearance from Krumbsnatcha of Gang Starr Foundation. In 2020, Serious Truth released two instrumental LPs containing all original compositions. The first instrumental album was released on January 15, 2020 titled "As The World Spins" and the second album was released on May 4 titled "Fall From Grace". A third instrumental album titled "Audio Mural" was released on October 5, 2021.[19]
Personal life
Legal Issues

On March 15, 2009, Serious Truth was indicted on charges of Aggravated Assault & Battery, Robbery and Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon after allegedly hospitalizing a Neo-nazi who had been giving local teenagers swastika tattoos, threatening women, and recruiting youths for white supremacist gangs. Evidence at trial proved he was innocent and was subsequently found not guilty of all charges.
On September 20, 2010, Serious Truth was indicted on a charge of Arson after allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at the property of a white supremacist gang member who had pulled a gun on local teenagers and pistol whipped a 15 year old girl on the night of August 17, 2010.[20] He was found not guilty of the charge after witnesses came forward and testified that he was not at any of the previous incidents and had provided a solid alibi.
On May 28, 2014, Serious Truth was arrested for Assault & Battery and Using a Motor Vehicle without Authority.[21] All charges were subsequently dropped due to falsified evidence.
As of May 1, 2020, Serious Truth has had his record expunged and continues to live as a law abiding citizen.
