Shalanda Baker

Shalanda Helen Baker (born December 24, 1976) is the deputy Director for Energy Justice and Secretary’s Advisor on Equity at the United States Department of Energy, and is the current nominee of President Joe Biden to serve as Director of the Office of Economic Impact and Diversity at the US Department of Energy.[1][2][3] She is also a professor of law, professor of public policy and urban affairs at Northeastern University.

She is the co-founder of the Initiative for Energy Justice[4][5] and the author of the book Revolutionary Power: An Activist’s Guide to the Energy Transition.[6]

Baker played in the 1998 Women's Rugby World Cup.[7]

Education

Baker graduated from the Air Force Academy, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. She then attended Northeastern University School of Law, where she received her Juris Doctor degree and later received her Master of Laws degree from University of Wisconsin Law School.[8][9]

Career

She worked as an Air Force officer during the “Don't Ask, Don't Tell” era, and pursued an honorable discharge[10] after her personal situation put her at odds with the policy.[11] She was a professor of Law at the University of San Francisco and the University of Hawaii at Manoa,[12] before joining professor of law, professor of public policy and urban affairs at Northeastern University. In 2021, she became the deputy Director for Energy Justice and Secretary’s Advisor on Equity at the United States Department of Energy.
