Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash

Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash (born 2 July 1969) is a Bangladeshi politician and current Chairman of Bangladesh Awami Jubo League.[1][2]

Early life and education

Parash is the elder son of Awami League leader and founder of Bangladesh Awami Jubo League Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani and Arzu Moni.[3] His parents were both assassinated in the 15 August 1975 Bangladesh coup d'état that also killed President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other members of his family. Parash and his younger brother Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh survived.[4] Parash went into hiding with his brother Taposh.[5] In 1978, they fled to India.[5] He graduated from Dhanmondi Government Boys' High School and Dhaka College.[5]

Parash accomplished his MA degree in English literature from Dhaka University and Colorado State University.[6][7]

Career

Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash has kept himself away from politics for a long time.[8] Parash taught English Language and Literature at BRAC University from 2006 to 2014.[6]

Prior to taking charge of Jubo League, he was engaged in teaching profession in different universities. On 23 November 2019, Parash was elected unopposed during its 7th national congress held at Suhrawardi Udyan in the capital Dhaka for the next three years.[8] He succeeded his uncle, Omar Faruk Chowdhury, as the chairman of the Jubo League.[9] He is a sponsor of Modhumoti Bank Limited.[10]

Personal life

Parash's wife, Nahid Sultana Juthi, is an advocate.[11] They have a daughter, Tanjin Brishti.[12]
