Southern People Weekly

Southern People Weekly (simplified Chinese: 南方人物周刊; traditional Chinese: 南方人物週刊), sometimes translated as Southern People's Weekly,[1] occasionally shortened as to SPW,[2] is a Guangzhou-based[3] comprehensive weekly people magazine published in Chinese, which is supervised by Nanfang Media Group. The journal was officially launched by Li Jian, [4] Xu Lie,[5] and Wan Jingbo[6] on June 15, 2004.[7]

The magazine is often regarded as a publication taking the liberal stand.[8] On December 1, 2015, Xu Lie, co-founder and editor-in-chief of Southern People Weekly, left the weekly and was invited to the United States as a one-year visiting scholar.[9]
