Sport management

Sports management has existed in some form as long as sports themselves, but the formal academic discipline has only been recognized as a unique area of research and study in recent history. England is the birthplace of modern sport and sports management. However James Mason was the first funder of sports management. He developed the first sport management programs in the United States at Ohio University in the year 1966. A Master of Science in Sports Medicine very much focuses on health care issues for athletes, including prevention, assessment, management and rehabilitation of injuries. A number of classes outside sport management may be relevant to the field, including; classes in management, marketing, business administration, economics, and accounting. Work experiences or internships that relates to managing any type of sport organization. Having a sports management degree can position students to become elite agents, team marketing directors, athletic department supervisors, coaches, fitness center supervisors, team managers and allow them to take over the sports industry.
