Stephen J. Tanner
Stephen J. Tanner is the Chief of the Halton Regional Police Service in Ontario, Canada. He was appointed in September 2012.

Previously, he was Chief of Police of the Kingston Police Force in Kingston, Ontario. He was appointed September 27, 2008 to succeed William J. Cross. He was also Chief of Belleville Police Service and a Deputy Chief of The Guelph Police Service. He commenced his policing career on september 13th, 1982 with the Halton Regional Police Service.
Chief Tanner is in his 20th year as a police CHief, having served in that role with 3 police services (Belleville, Kingston, and Halton Region).With the retirement of CHief Paul Smith of the Charlottetown PEI police service Chief Tanner is believed to be the longest serving police chief (across 3 services) in all of Canada.
He also serves as the Chair of the Governing body of the Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario, and serves as a member of the National Police Services - National Advisory Committee (NPS NAC) which oversees a variety of policing functions for Canada. [1]
Education
Tanner graduated from the University of Guelph in 1982, with a psychology degree and graduated from University of Western Ontario with a master of public administration.[2]
