Thato Molamu

Sehume Thato Ishmael Molamu (born 2 December 1984), popularly known as Thato Molamu, is a South African actor and television personality.[1] She is best known for the roles in the television serials Intersexions, Generations and Kowethu. Apart from that, he is also a philanthropist, brand & marketing strategist, social entrepreneur, and creative director.[2]

Personal life

Molamu was born on 2 December 1984 in Mafikeng, South Africa.[3]

He was dated to Generations scriptwriter Bongi Ndaba, where they had a son together.[4] After the separation, he dated with fellow actress Xoli Zondi, with whom he has another child.[2] Currently he is living with his 2 children and parents.[1]

Career

After high school life, he appeared in various shows, such as The Grandball and Jack in the Box. In 2004, he made his first musical, "Where The Sun Rises". In 2005, he attended to Damelin College and completed a course in Film and Broadcasting.[5] In the meantime, he became a regular actor at the North West Arts Council and performed in the stage plays such as Hamlet, A Midsumer Nights Dream (2001), Romeo and Juliet (2008), and Meropa (2006). In 2006, he appeared in Meropa in 2006 as "Phuti". In 2011, he joined with the SABC1 soap opera Generations and played the role "Nicholas Nomvete" until 2014. Then he acted in the Mzansi Magic’s serial The Queen with the role "Bakang Nkwe".[2] and later in Umlilo.[6]

Apart from acting, he is also a radio and television personality. He hosted a show aired on the East Coast Radio in Durban. In 2014, he hosted the reality TV game show What’s Behind the Wall, aired on SABC2. Later he co-hosted the Mzani Magic Entertainment magazine program in 2016 with Nomalanga Shozi. He also worked as a presenter on Mzansi Magic show All Access Mzansi. In 2021 he hosted the conversational radio-television platform called "Conrad TV".[6][5]

In 2012, he founded the non profit organization "The Thato Molamu Foundation" to build life standard of the local people.[7] In 2013, he founded the business company, Gateway Media to undertake marketing communications.[2] It is also the 100% black-owned integrated marketing communications company in South Africa. In 2018, he started Leaders in Motion Academy (Lima), a digital creative skills academy and production hub based in the township of Eersterust in Tshwane.[8]
