The Beautiful Game is an upcoming British film directed by Thea Sharrock from a screenplay by Frank Cottrell-Boyce. It is set to be released on Netflix.[1]

Premise
The film centres on a team participating the Homeless World Cup led by a retired scout Mal and a young striker Vinny.

Production
An earlier iteration of the project was in development with Searchlight Pictures. In August 2021, it was announced Thea Sharrock would direct Frank Cottrell-Boyce's screenplay about the Homeless World Cup with Graham Broadbent and Peter Czernin of Blueprint Pictures as well as Anita Overland as executive producers. In addition, Ben Knight and Diarmuid McKeown, also of Blueprint, and Ollie Madden and Daniel Battsek of Film4 would produce.
It was also announced Micheal Ward and Bill Nighy would star in the film alongside Valeria Golino, Callum Scott Howells, Kit Young, Sheyi Cole, Robin Nazari, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Susan Wokoma, Layo-Christina Akinlude, Christina Rodlo and Aoi Okuyama.[2]
Principal photography began in Rome in July 2021. It is set to move to London.[1][3][4]
