Thiago Fernandes (footballer, born 2001)

Thiago Fernandes Rodrigues (born 13 March 2001), sometimes known as just Thiago, is a Brazilian footballer who currently plays as a forward for Flamengo.[1]

In this Portuguese name, the first or maternal family name is Fernandes and the second or paternal family name is Rodrigues.

Career

Early career

Born in the Pina neighborhood of southern Recife, Thiago Fernandes was rejected from trials with Sport Recife and Palmeiras before being signed by Náutico of Recife.[2]

Náutico

Thiago Fernandes made his professional debut for Náutico on 16 December 2018 in a friendly against Argentine club Newell's Old Boys, where he scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory at the Estádio dos Aflitos. Playing primarily as a right-winger, Thiago was a starter for Náutico at the age of 18, finishing the 2019 Campeonato Brasileiro Série C season as Náutico's second-most goal scorer with 5 goals in 17 appearances. Náutico were league champions and earned promotion to the 2020 Série B. Náutico also finished runners-up in the 2019 Campeonato Pernambucano (where Thiago earned recognition as the league "Revelação," or "Best Newcomer") and reached the semi-finals of the Copa do Nordeste.

Flamengo

On 12 December 2019, Náutico announced Thiago Fernandes' transfer to Série A club Flamengo for an undisclosed fee.[1] Thiago had a €3 million release clause from Náutico. He joined Flamengo's U-20 team.

Náutico (loan)

On 7 May 2020 Flamengo loaned Thiago Fernandes back to Náutico expecting him to get more match time experience.[3]
