Thomas A. Bolger

Thomas A. Bolger (April 1, 1887 – April 16, 1953) was an American politician.

Bolger was born on a farm in Nunda Township, McHenry County, Illinois to Walter Bolger and Ellen Knox Bolger. He lived in McHenry, Illinois and married Grace Johanna Doherty on 18 November 1915, in McHenry, McHenry, Illinois, United States. They were the parents of at least 1 daughter, Vivian Clare Bolger.[1]

Bolger served on the McHenry Community High School Board of Education and served as president of the board of education. Bolger also served on the McHenry County Board of Review.

He served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1931 until 1951 and was a Democrat.

In 1938 and 1939, during the Great Depression, the William G. Stratton Lock and Dam was constructed on land donated by the Bolger family through labor provided by members of the Civilian Conservation Corps, who used boulders donated by the Bolger family in the construction of the Lock and the Dam. The 94th Illinois General Assembly passed a House Resolution that the William G. Stratton Lock and Dam should be known as the William G. Stratton - Thomas A. Bolger Lock and Dam.[2]

Thomas A. Bolger was a proud and distinguished member of the McHenry community and was dedicated to serving the interests of the people of that community; as a man who valued education, he was instrumental in forming School District 156; he was first elected as an Illinois State Representative in 1930 and faithfully served the People of the State of Illinois for eleven consecutive terms.[3]

He died at a rest home at Pistakee Bay at the age of 66.
