Tokimeki Memorial 3, released in 2001 for the PlayStation 2, further pushed the technical limits for dating sims, being the first game to have fully 3-D animated cel-shaded girls. It was the last new game in the original series until the announcement of Tokimeki Memorial 4 in 2009. [1]

Reception
On release, Famitsu magazine scored the game a 34 out of 40 (85 out of 100 for online version), consequently receiving the magazine's "Gold" award.[2] However, many fans were disappointed by the appearance of the girls, which although well-animated since Tokimeki Memorial 3 was run on the same engine found in Playstation 2 version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and Grand Theft Auto III, it did not look as polished as 2D art found previous two games in the series, as well as by the simplified gameplay system, and poor Game Script. leading a User Reviewer average scored at the MK2network only 52 out of 100.[3] unlike the previous two games in the series, Tokimeki Memorial 3 had no Drama games or spin-offs produced. as the game did not sell as well as expected, selling only 129,534 copies when compared to Tokimeki Memorial 2 which sold 370,000 copies within six months after release.[4][5]
