Plot

Ali is a 15-year-old music lover who lives with his parents in a small town on the outskirts of Tehran. His father is strict and almost fanatical when it comes to Islam, the family's main religion. Following another family argument in which Ali gets beaten by his father, Ali runs away. While traveling through wilderness, Ali hears a musical instrument playing a tune that he isn't familiar with. He follows the sound which eventually leads him to a goat-herder who plays the ney. Eager to learn, Ali asked the boy to teach him how to play it. Learning enough, Ali decides to steal the flute-like instrument so that he can play it forever.

Ali's determination to learn music leads him to the capital to which he arrives by bus. He manages to convince the administrative office to accept him as a student at their music school. Seeing his enthusiasm and will the teachers decide to consult his father, who, of course, refuses to give him permission to join the school of music. But Ali doesn't care as nothing will stop him from enjoying the things he likes.

While attending school, Ali falls in love with high-spirited and compassionate 11-year-old girl, Azar. Her father, turned out to be more sympathetic to Ali, unlike his own father. Azar's father, who is a writer, is working on a book about angels.
