Two Women (1975 film)

Samira (Nelly) is a beautiful woman married to Adham (Mohamed El Dafrawi), a wealthy businessman who she has borne a daughter. He is always busy at work, however, and she travels with a friend named Adel (Salah Nazmi) in Alexandria to relieve the boredom. Adham denounces the behavior with the help of his sister Khadija (Aziza Helmy) and divorces Samira before proceeding to take the daughter to another country and tell her Samira has died.

Adel offers Samira as a gift to the wealthy Rostom (Emad Hamdy), who lives in Lebanon, and suggests they sleep together without making the scheme clear. After Rostom discovers Samira is unaware of the arrangement, he expels Adel and Samira lives with Rostom. Theatrical director Khalil Nawar hires her to dance and sing in Beirut theatres under the name Nawal. Eventually, Adham dies and Samira’s daughter Hoda grows up and gets engaged to a doctor named Kamal (Nour El-Sherif).

Kamal’s friend, a pilot named Mukhtar Hashem (Ahmed Mazhar), meets Nawal in Beirut and falls in love with her. They want to marry and return to Egypt, where Nawal knows Huda’s fate but few know Nawal is Samira, among the unaware being Hoda’s aunt Khadija Hanim and her friend Inayat (Fathia Shaheen). Hoda hosts a wedding party for her nuptials with Kamal and invites Nawal. When Nawal faints there and is given assistance by Kamal, Hoda thinks they are kissing. Hence, Hoda publicly expels Nawal and gets revenge on Kamal by going to the house of his friend Rushdie and Hoda’s failed suitor (Abdel Rahman Abou Zahra).

Hoda’s aunt Khadija asks for Nawal’s help returning Hoda to Kamal. Nawal thus goes to Rushdie’s apartment to ask her back. Mukhtar and Kamal both come by as well. While Nawal and Hoda try to leave through the apartment’s kitchen, Hoda forgets her fan in Rushdie’s bedroom. Kamal finds the fan and thinks Hoda is cheating on him, but Nawal steps in to announce it as a gift from Hoda to her. Mukhtar also suspects Nawal of cheating with the same man and decides to leave the country, but Hoda explains the truth to Mukhtar and Kamal both, and the couples are all left intact.

Nelly performs several songs in the film, all featuring lyrics by Fathi Qura. The only song without a melody by Hassan Abu Zeid is “استعراض الإسطوانات” (“Review of Records”), featuring a tune by Helmy Bakr.
