Uganda Internet Exchange Point

The Uganda Internet Exchange Point (UIXP) is a non-profit Internet exchange point operator founded in 2001 with the goal of improving Internet connectivity within Uganda and the East African region. The UIXP enables networks to directly interconnect and freely exchange data traffic at a common point, thereby reducing the amount which must be delivered via costly intermediaries. This lowers the overall cost of network service delivery, improves routing efficiency, and increases fault tolerance.[3]

Peering infrastructure

The UIXP operates two independent layer 2 peering infrastructures within the greater Kampala area. They support both bilateral and multilateral peering via IPv4 and IPv6. In 2021 the UIXP expanded into the Raxio carrier neutral data center located in the Kampala Industrial and Business Park.[4]
