Urgulania gens

The Urgulania gens is an obscure ancient Roman gens mainly known from empress Livia's friend Urgulania.

History

The name of the gens may derive from the Etruscan cognomen Orgolanus/Orgolanius.[1]

  • Urgulania, friend of empress Livia and grandmother of emperor Claudius first wife Plautia Urgulanilla
  • Marcus Avidius Urgulanius, possibly a relative of Urgulania (maybe even father or brother).[2]
  • Aulus Avidius Urgulanius, present with Augustus in Alexandria on his diplomatic mission in 12 AD.[3]
  • Sextus Urgulanius, father of Urgulanianus[4]
  • Sextus Urgulanius, brother of Urgulanianus[4]
