Utilita Energy

Utilita Energy is an electricity and gas supplier operating in the United Kingdom. Utilita began trading in 2003  specialising in Smart Pay As You Go Energy. It is one of the UK's largest energy suppliers by market share.

As of January 2021, Utilita has over 800,000 customers,[1] representing a 2.6% share in the domestic market.[2]

Company history

Utilita Energy began trading in 2003. The company's founder and Chief Executive Officer is Bill Bullen.

In 2008, Utilita became the first energy company in the UK to install a Smart Meter.[3]

By 2014, the company had reached 100,000 customers.

In January 2020, Ofgem began a probe into Utilita for bad practice and overcharging its prepayment meter customers.[4]

Software development

In 2018 Utilita launched their energy management app My Utilita.

Energy Hubs

Utilita began a national rollout of high street Energy Hubs in 2018, allowing customers to top-up, check their account and get energy-saving advice in store. As of December 2020, Utilita has Energy Hubs located in Gosport, Southampton, Isle of Wight, Derby, West Bromwich, and Edinburgh.[5]

Sponsorship

Utilita was announced as the main shirt sponsor for Eastleigh from the 2016-17 season, the biggest in Eastleigh's history. The sponsorship has continued for a further four seasons.[6]

On 19 March 2018, Dundee United confirmed that Utilita would be the new shirt sponsor on a two year deal from the 2018-19 season. [7] A one year extension was signed for the 2020-21 season on 9 July 2020.[8] The deal ended after the 2020-21 season but became the official sleeve sponsor for the club for the 2021-22 season.

In 2019 Utilita was announced to be the shirt sponsor for Bristol Rovers on a one year deal.[9] This was extended for the 2020-21 season on 30 June 2020.[10]

On 15 July 2019, Utilita signed a deal with Scunthorpe United to become the shirt sponsor for the club for two seasons.[11] The deal was ended after the 2020-21 season after a review.[12]

On 28 August 2020, Brentford announced that Utilita would be the shirt sponsor for the 2020-21 season.[13]

On 31 March 2021, it was announced that Utilita would be the shirt sponsor for Huddersfield Town on a three year deal starting from the 2021-22 season.[14]

On 4 June 2021, Hibernian announced a two year shirt sponsorship for the club from the 2021-22 season.[15]

Utilita have also sponsored several academy teams including Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Sheffield United.
