Verificat
Verificat is a fact-checking project created in April 2019 to combat misinformation in Catalonia.[1] Created as an independent non-profit, the project was inspired by the platforms of the Poynter Institute's International Fact-Checking Network,[2] and in 2020 has become a verified signatory of its Code of Principles.[3] Verificat publishes copyleft-licensed content, in order that other journalists can make free use the content they produce.
The platform was founded by journalists Alba Tobella, Carola Solé, Roser Toll, Carina Bellver and Elisa Vivas, together with Lorenzo Marini, before the Barcelona municipal election campaign of 2019.[4] The project has received financial support from the Open Society Foundations in 2019 and 2020.[5]
