Vyacheslav Kim

Vyacheslav Konstantinovich Kim (born June 12, 1969, in Almaty, Kazakhstan) is an economist and financier, co-founder and chairman of the Board of Directors at Kaspi.kz, and President of the Kazakhstan National Taekwondo Federation.

Since 2020 he takes the fourth position among five most influential and richest businessmen of Kazakhstan.[1]

Education

Vyacheslav Kim graduated from the Republican Physics and Mathematics School in 1996.[2] In 1998, he got a degree in Finances and Economy from the Kazakh National Pedagogical University.[3] In 2002, he graduated from the Russian-Kazakh Modern Humanitarian University with a degree in Finances. In 1987–1989, Kim did military service in the USSR Armed Forces.[4]

Early career

In 1990, he was a co-founder of Konovalov’s Ophthalmology Clinic.[5] In 1996–2004, he was engaged in retail business and electronic equipment distribution at ALTAIR JSC, Asia Technics LLP, ATG LLP.

In 1993–2005, Kim was one of the founders and owners of the Planet of Electronics Network of Stores.[6] In 2003–2004, he became a chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Kazakhstan Association of Manufacturers and Equipment.[7] In 2004–2005, he was the president of Asia Technics Group JSC.[8] In 2004–2006, Vyacheslav Kim was the adviser to the Minister of Economy and Budget Planning of Kazakhstan.[9] At the same time in 2005–2006, he worked as a Managing Director of Economics at Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC.[10]

Kaspi.kz

In 2002–2006, Kim was a shareholder and a member of the Board of Directors at Bank Kaspiyskiy JSC.[11] In 2006, he became the largest shareholder and chairman of the Board of Directors at Bank Kaspiyskiy JSC.[12] Since 2008, he has been the chairman of the Board of Directors at Kaspi Bank JSC.[13] On December 05, 2018, he became the chairman of the Kaspi.kz Board of Directors.[14] In October 2020, the value of his stake in Kaspi.kz was estimated at $1.9 billion.[15][16]

On February 21, 2020, the president of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with Vyacheslav Kim and the Chairman of the Kaspi.kz Board Mikhail Lomtadze to discuss the digital service development strategy and company’s support of the small and medium-sized businesses for e-commerce growth in Kazakhstan.[17] On February 26, 2021, the President of Kazakhstan and the Kaspi.kz founders discussed the areas of joint activity of the state bodies and Kaspi.kz, including the development of non-cash payments in Kazakhstan.[18]

Other projects

Since 2013, Kim has been a co-owner of Kolesa Group[19] and he became a co-owner of the Alseco Company in 2015.[20]

In 2016–2019, he was a member of the Board of Directors and Independent Director of Group of Companies Allur JSC.[21]

In 2017–2019, Kim was a co-owner of the Magnum Retail Chain.[22] Since 2019, he has been the chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Magnum Retail Chain.[23]

In 2021 Kim became an Independent Director on the Board of Directors of the National Welfare Fund "Samruk-Kazyna".[24][25]

Social activity

Public and Sports Organizations

On November 11, 2013, Vyacheslav Kim became the president of the Kazakhstan Taekwondo Federation.[26] Since 2013, the Federation has started receiving funding and uniforms, sports gear and equipment for athletes.[27]

In 2016–2019, he was the president of the Kazakhstan Kendo and Iaido Federation.[28]

Since April 13, 2017, he has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Fizmat Endowment Fund Public Foundation[29] and a member of the board of directors of the republican school of Physics and Mathematics.[30]

In 2018, he became a member of the Board of Trustees of the Almaty Triathlon Federation.[31]

Since 2019, Kim has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Kazakhgeography Kazakhstan National Geographic Society.[32][33]

Charity

In 2010–2014, he sponsored the Ayala Charitable Foundation in the «Breathe, Baby» Project.[34] Kim has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Mercy Voluntary Society since 2016.[35][36] In March 2017, Vyacheslav Kim together with Mikheil Lomtadze donated a building with an area of 1,400 square meters to the «We will Win Autism» Project.[37] Since 2013, he has been one of the trustees and partners of the Saby Charitable Foundation in the «Build Your Business» Project.[38][39][40][41]In 2020, Vyacheslav Kim and Mikhail Lomtadze provided financial support to the health care sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan during the coronavirus pandemic. They allocated 100 million tenges for the purchase of rapid tests and lung ventilators[42][43] and donated 100 Ambulances to the state to fight the pandemic.[44]

Wealth

Since 2002, Vyacheslav Kim has been included in the list of the richest people in Kazakhstan by Forbes Kazakhstan. He took the eighth position in 2020, with a wealth estimated at $639 million. On October 15, 2019, he was in the top ten most influential businessmen in Kazakhstan. In 2020, Forbes Kazakhstan awarded «Businessman of the Year» to two entrepreneurs at the same time – Kaspi.kz co-founders Vyacheslav Kim and Mikheil Lomtadze.[45]

In 2021, he entered the Forbes global list of billionaires, taking 925th place.[46]
