Webidemic

Webidemic is a 2021 horror short film, starring, written, and directed by Venezuelan writer Francisco Villarroel, in his directorial debut, who was joined in directing along with filmmaker Daniel Carrillo[1][2][3].The short film premiered at the Latino Film Market NYC.[4]

Synopsys

The story is developed in a video conference in which the professor greets his students as each of the students access the class. Suddenly some of those present turn violent, others are attacked, and the professor tries to calm the situation until the story reaches an unexpected end.

Production

The short film Webidemic was not the first collaboration between writer Francisco Villarroel and filmmaker Daniel Carrillo, who had worked on the feature films Two Autumns in Paris and Tango Bar, as actor, screenplay writer and producer the former and as editor the latter. Likewise, all the actors had previously participated in the film productions of the producer Francisco Villarroel. The scenes were filmed remotely in Bogotá, Caracas, and Valencia, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Awards

The short film Webidemic participated in the official selection of the Venezuelan Film Festival,[5][6] the Tlanchana Fest, The Film and Digital Art Festival, the Toronto Latin American Film Festival,[7] the El Grito International Fantastic film and Horror Festival,[8][9] the Latino & Iberian Film Festival at Yale,[10] International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK)[11] and won the award of merit in the Accolade Global Film Competition,[12] The IndieFest Film Awards[13] and the Best Shorts Competition[14] and the award of best thriller short in the Best Global Shorts.[15]
