The Weekender started as an independent entertainment weekly in 1991. It was purchased by Times Leader in 1993. Since then, The Weekender claims to have grown to be northeastern Pennsylvania’s arts and entertainment weekly with highest circulation. As of this date, it was reported to be reaching 40,000 copies in print, with distribution to over 1,000 locations weekly, covering five Pennsylvania counties, with more than 174,000 readers.
