Weifang dialect

Weifang dialect is a variety of Jiao-Liao Mandarin spoken in the prefecture-level city of Weifang in eastern Shandong province.[1] Slightly different varieties of the Weifang dialect are spoken in the different counties of Weifang. The varieties of Weifang dialect include the Weicheng, Fangzi, Hanting, Changle, Changyi, Gaomi, Zhucheng, Wulian, Anqiu, Linqu, Qingzhou, and Shouguang dialects.[2]

Tones

The tones of Weifang dialect have the contours 214, 53, 55, and 31.[3]

The basic rule for converting from Standard Chinese tones to Weifang dialect tones is to change first tone words into the third tone, the second tone into the fourth, the third tone into the first, and the fourth tone becomes lower.

Differences in Vocabulary

Differences in vocabulary exist between various forms of the Weifang dialect. For example, in the Zhucheng dialect, the pronoun "they" is 他这些人 while in the majority of other Weifang dialects including the variety spoken in Weifang City say "they" the same way as people do in Standard Mandarin, that is, 他们.
