Worthing Crematorium

Worthing Crematorium is a municipal crematorium in Findon, West_Sussex, England. It is located on the site of Muntham Court country house and estate.[1] Following the death in 1957 of the last owner Colonel U.O. Thynne, the estate was auctioned off and the house and gardens demolished to make way for a crematorium.[2]

Construction of the crematorium complex began in 1967 on the site of the old tennis courts. It was designed under leadership of Borough Architect of the Worthing Council Frank Morris and received Architectural Design Project Award for 1966. The crematorium opened its doors on the 5th January 1968. The first cremation service, of Isobelle Maude Tarry was three days later on the 8th January 1968.[3]
