Yahya Mahayni

Yahya Mahayni, is a Syrian actor and writer.[1] He is best known for the critics acclaimed role "Sam Ali" in the award-winning Tunisian movie The Man Who Sold His Skin.[2][3][4]

Personal life

His father died shortly after releasing the short Emptiness.[2]

Career

From 2013 to 2014, he studied drama from Acting International, Paris.[5] Since 2015, he acted in several short films and medium-length movies such as Al en vers and Bengué. Then he appeared in the short film Emptiness directed by Yoann Suberviolle.[2]

In 2019, he acted in the Tunisian film The Man Who Sold His Skin directed by Kaouther Ben Hania.[2] In the film, he played the main role "Sam Ali". His role was highly praised by the critics and later screened at several international film festivals.[6][7] The film was selected as the Tunisian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards.[8][9] In March 2021, the film was nominated for the Best International Feature Film.[10] The film was premiered in the Horizons section at the 77th Venice International Film Festival,[11] and Mahayni won the Best Actor Award in the Horizons Section.[12][13]
