Career

Gael attended CNSAD in Paris. He is best known for his role in the Sakho & Mangane African Netflix series, and television mini-series Le Rêve Français.

Gael has played strong leads opposite famous actors in European programs. Duel au Soleil (with Gérard Darmon) being his debut on television. Il Corragio di Vincere with Adriano Giannini. And Le Rêve Français, also led by Aïssa Maïga.

Le Rêve Français is a period drama. It follows Gael as a wrongfully accused activist from West Indies turned into a successful lawyer, who brings the state to court for pesticide-poisoning his homeland and people. Gael's performance earned him the Best Actor Award at the Festival de la fiction TV de La Rochelle 2017.[1] The fiction - inspired by true events - was screened at the French Ministry of The Interior and at the French Ministry of Overseas, as an acknowledgment of its national patrimonial value to France.

In Loro, Gael plays more modestly with Toni Servillo under the direction of Paolo Sorrentino.[2] He described the experience to be 'mostly beautiful holidays in Sardinia'.

In 2017, following several cases of police brutality on black men, Gael was invited by multi-award winner and critically acclaimed author Léonora Miano to write in the book Marianne and the Black Boy. In his chapter, Gael talks in an experimental and poetic form of his path navigating France, black masculinity and being an actor. [3]

Black Soldier is a short film from director Jimmy Laporal-Trésor. It mirrors the growth of a young man with the violence of his new mentor (Gael), as he is recruited in black men gang to fight skinheads. The short premiered at International Critics' Week of Cannes Film Festival 2021[4] and currently pre selected for the César Awards 2022.[5]

Saloum marks Gael's first lead role in a feature film and confirms his collaboration with director Jean Luc Herbulot, (also showrunner and first director of Sakho & Mangane). Saloum world premiered at 2021 Toronto International Film Festival.[6] Variety described this genre-bending African-horror-western as 'bound to be in high demand on the festival circuit and has the sheer entertainment value to enjoy a successful commercial life thereafter.'[7]

Gael is also announced in the highly awaited and technology innovative Netflix series 1899.[8][9] The show is directed by Baran bo Odar and written by Jantje Friese, the creators of Netflix hit series Dark.
