You Sexy Thing (book)

Publishers Weekly called the story "clever" and said Cat Rambo was able to create credible characters. They called You Sexy Thing "a thoroughly entertaining sci-fi romp."[1] The Library Journal gave the novel a starred review, with the verdict that the novel is "a delightful, action-filled space jaunt, packed with engaging alien species, a bioship that learns emotions, and witty references."[2]

A review published on the website Smart Bitches, Trashy Books commented on the various plotlines present in the book, saying they work well together, but can feel disjointed due to the different types of stories being told. The reviewer talked about characters not being "complex, but they are engaging and fun to follow". Although they overall enjoyed the book, the death of one character "left a bitter aftertaste."[3]

Liz Bourke, who reviewed for Locus Online, compared Rambo's novel to Tim Pratt's Axiom trilogy, and called it a "fast, zippy novel that hides some surprisingly substantial emotional heavy lifting under its hood." Bourke also noted the story contains "a nuanced consideration of responsibility, personal ethics, class, and the nature of art." Adrienne Martini, writing for the same magazine, talked about the allusions the novel makes to other science fiction works, such as Farscape, Star Wars and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Martini goes on to say You Sexy Thing is not "something right on the cutting edge of the genre", but it's a "cozy" story.[4]
