Team changes

The newly established hockey club HC 21 Prešov replaced HC 07 Detva in Slovak Extraliga from this season. Ernest Bokroš was the head coach and the basic team should be made up of players from Detva. The final point for moving the Detvian club to Prešov gave the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation, but it was only a formality.[3]

In closing, we don't have the loss of one player, we have the loss of a whole club. After MAC Budapest, extraliga also separated from the second Hungarian representative from Miskolc, DVTK Jegesmedvék. There were three season of ice in our competition, but their maximum was to participate in the wild–card round in 2018–19 season. Last year they ended up with a 47–point profit in the penultimate place before the MHK 32 Liptovský Mikuláš. However, during his performance in Slovakia, Miskolc offered several high-quality legionnaires and fans will be happy to remember the excursions made by Hungarian cakes, rusks in a bun or bread with butter and onions.[4]

Regular season

Standings

Each team plays 50 games: playing each of the other eleven teams four times – 2x at home, 2x away (44 games) and during the Christmas holidays (26.12.2021 – 9.1.2022) each team play the inserted matches within the region 1x at home, 1x away = 6 games.

Points are awarded for each game, where three points are awarded for winning in regulation time, two points for winning in overtime or shootout, one point for losing in overtime or shootout, and zero points for losing in regulation time. At the end of the regular season, the team that finishes with the most points will be crowned the league champion.
