2021 Khalde Clashes

A deadly clash in the city of Khalde took place on August 2021, it started when Sunni tribe Arabs of Khalde, which are mostly supporters of Future Movement and supporters of extremist cleric Omar Ghosn, clashed with allegedly Hezbollah supporters. The confrontation lasted for hours and included machine guns firing in various directions, rocket grenades propelled, and stores set ablaze, including the Shebli Center.

Background

Omar Ghosn was arrested over his order to militants to attack the house of Ali Shebli and to remove an Ashura banner there. Despite the fact that the owner of the Shebli Center has the right to hang whatever he wants on his building, Omar Ghosn tore down the large banner, according to preliminary reports from the area.

Shebli, at time, filed a complaint against Ghosn, calling on the Lebanese competent authorities to put an end to the extremist cleric's harassments over sectarian affiliations.

Casualties

Two were killed, 15-year old boy Hasan Ghosn, who repeatedly appeared in photos holding weapons, who was also among the militants who attacked Shebli Center, and a Syrian national, and at least three were injured.

After the Clashes

Ahmad Ghosn, brother of Hasan, shot Shebli dead during the wedding of his sister in Al-Jiyeh area, some 30 kms south of Beirut. The horrible footage of Ghosn firing 5 bullets at Shebli in front of his family went viral on social media.[2][3]
