315 series

The 315 series (315系, 315-kei) is a future suburban electric multiple unit (EMU) train type to be introduced by Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) in the Nagoya and Shizuoka areas.

Formation

The fleet will consist of 42 four-car sets and 23 eight-car sets.[4] Eight-car sets are presumed to be numbered from C1 onwards.[1][2]

Interior

The design concept of the interior is "a comfortable moving space with a gentle and secure feeling."[5]

Passenger accommodation will consist of longitudinal seating throughout; each seat will have a per-occupant width of 46 centimetres (18 in), a 1 cm (0.39 in) increase over those of the 211 series. Wheelchair spaces will be provided in every car.[5] The interior will also feature passenger information displays and security cameras.[6]

History

JR Central has ordered 352 cars as a replacement for the 211, 213, and 311 series trains operating since the late 1980s.[7] It was announced by JR Central on 17 November 2021 that they plan to introduce the fleet from 5 March 2022.[3]
