Akhri Barish

Akhri Barish (Urdu: آخری بارش‎, lit. 'The last rain') is a Pakistani television series which aired from 3 April 2011 to 11 December 2011 on Hum TV. It is produced by Mehroz Karim under banner Mehroz Karim Films, written by Seema Ghazal and directed by Adnan Wai Qureshi, the team who previously created 2010 series Aashti. Previously, the drama went by the name Larki chaya; however, it was later changed to Akhri Barish, possibly to avoid people thinking it is a drama about prostitution.[1][2]

The story revolves around the weaknesses in our social norms and behaviour. It highlights the dilemma of a woman who has left her past behind, but still faces hurdles in being accepted as a member of the society.

Plot

The story starts with two sisters, Dil Aara and Husna who are tawaifs and runs a kotha. Husna's daughter Zeenut Aman has grip over the fun, is good in dancing and singing and earns money by her customers however, Dil Aara's daughter Chanda has no interest in all these things and she wants to lead a respectful life and her mother also wants to marry her as soon as possible. One day, Dil Aara dies due to heart attack and leaves Chanda in helplessness.

One day, the police inspector comes to kotha, misbehaves with Chanda and she in return insults him. The inspector then locks up all the tawaifs and agrees to release them on spending a night with Chanda. Husna agrees over it and he releases all the tawaifs. On kotha, there comes a guy named Shahram who falls for Chanda. They want to marry till Shahram's parents allow him to do so. On that night, Husna sends all tawaifs in a fuction for performance while she himself is alone with Chanda in kotha. The inspector comes and tries to do with Chanda but fails when she bites on his hand. While on the other hand, Shahram's father, Mehmoods gets furious on his decision of marriage with a tawaif and tries to restrain him from it. He eventually leaves for the U.K. with her wife Kulsoom and hands over his house to his cousin Saira so that Shahram could not bring Chanda to here after marriage.
