According to an article published in the Saudi newspaper Okaz, Al-Ju'ranah is the original location of the Al-Aqsa Mosque mentioned in the Qur'an as the destination of Muhammad's night journey.[2] The exact location of Al-Aqsa isn't mentioned in the Qur'an, but later Islamic traditions associated it with Jerusalem and the Temple Mount. This suggestion sparked outrage from Muslims around the world, with some writers claiming it was fabricated to justify the decision of some Gulf countries to normalize ties with Israel.[3]
