Australians in Turkey
There are approximately 12,000 Australians in Turkey.[1] Of these, the overwhelming majority are in the capital Ankara (roughly 10,000) while the remaining are in Istanbul. Australian expatriates in Turkey form one of the largest overseas Australian groups in Europe and Asia. The vast majority of Australian nationals in Turkey are Turkish Australians.

A defining moment for Australians in Turkey was when the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) engaged in battle in the Gallipoli peninsula, which later became known as Anzac Cove, on April 25th 1915 during World War 1. The day of remembrance that commemorates the efforts of the ANZACs falls on April 25th every year and has gained the name of "Anzac Day".[2][3]
History of Gallipoli
On the 25th of April 1915 the Australian troops landed at the Gallipoli Peninsula, what is now known as Anzac Cove.[4]
