Balkrishna Phatak
Balkrishna Phatak was a war secretary in the Maratha confederacy in service to the Peshwa Madhavrao II and several other generals of the Maratha forces. He fought in the Battle of Kharda on March 11, 1795, alongside his father Chimnaji Phatak. He was tasked with reports on the movements of the Nizam of Hyderabad for several months preceding the war.[1][2]
Originally from Kasop, Phatak was a member of the Chitpavan brahmin Phatak gharana of Jambhali. He mother was Uma Phatak, and he was the eldest of two sons. His uncle Ramchandra was an ancestor of Y. V. Phatak and Ashutosh Phatak.[3]
