British School of Guangzhou

The British School of Guangzhou was founded in 2005[3] by the British Schools Foundation. In August 2013, the school was acquired by Nord Anglia Education.[4][5]

The school follows the English National Curriculum (ENC), one of three main internationally recognised curricula. Students who graduate from ENC schools can choose to study in universities worldwide, usually without requiring to sit additional examinations. Recent academic results at The British School of Guangzhou convey its success and growing reputation as a top global international school.[6]

School enrolment has grown considerable in recent years with in excess of 1200 students now attending day school. All students are international passport holders as Chinese students are not permitted to attend. Over 50 nationalities are represented.

SOUTH LAKE CAMPUS

Situated alongside Nanhu’s scenic south lake, The British School of Guangzhou’s main campus stretches across 38,561m2 of land with 2 football pitches, 2 basketball courts, a gymnasium and heated swimming pool. Play facilities include an age-appropriate adventure playground and large outdoor spaces specifically-designed to encourage social interaction.

• NANHU BUILDING (YEARS 2-6 + MUSIC, SCIENCE AND LANGUAGES)

Opened in 2008, the 10,550m2 of indoor space has been developed into 40 classrooms, 5 science labs, 4 music rooms, 2 ICT suites, 2 art rooms, a recording studio, dance studio, sports hall, dining area, 250-seat theatre and coffee shop.

Music rooms and science labs have been designed around Nord Anglia Education’s collaborations with The Juilliard School (New York) and MIT — enhancing our performing arts and STEAM subjects respectively.

• HILLSIDE BUILDING

In 2014, the Hillside building was opened to add 1,620m2 of indoor space for Year 6 students, our Secondary mathematics department and further performing arts spaces, including a dance studio and amphitheatre.

• SECONDARY HEIGHTS

2016 saw the opening of a brand-new, Secondary-specific facility, tailored for the eldest students (aged 11-18). With 15 classrooms, an art studio, library, large Sixth Form study lounge and spacious outdoor seating areas with a coffee shop, this learning environment is perfect for students studying their IGCSEs and A-Levels.

• SOUTH PARK

Adjacent to the Nanhu Amusement Park and designed by the teachers, South Park opened in 2018 to create modern learning spaces for our youngest students (aged 1-5). The 4,300m2 building includes 8 classrooms that back onto an adventure playground, shared reading areas, a multi-purpose hall, dance studio, STEAM lab and music rooms.

NORD ANGLIA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL GUANGZHOU (NAISGZ), HUANGPU

Located close to Guangzhou’s Olympic Park, a second campus was opened in August 2021 as a leading-edge facility for students aged 2-11. Purpose-built to make the most of collaborations with The Juilliard School (New York) and MIT, NAISGZ underpins Nord Anglia Education’s ambition to inspire excellence through the foundation stage of the British curriculum.

Nord Anglia Education students are connected through Global Campus, an initiative which use online communities to connect students with their international counterparts.[7] The program offers a wide range of activities undertaken in school, online or at destinations around the world.[8]

Juilliard-Nord Anglia Performing Arts Programme

In February 2015, Nord Anglia Education and The Juilliard School announced a global collaboration[9] to enhance performing arts education for students in grades K-12. The program includes an embedded curriculum along with continued support and engagement with Juilliard alumni and affiliated artists.[10] It also includes professional development for teachers, a summer school and private lessons. The curriculum was rolled out in September 2015 and is expected to educate more than 20,000 students aged 3 to 18 by 2017.

The curriculum focuses on key works of music, dance and drama, and provides student with exciting opportunities to be visited by Juilliard alumni and for students to travel to New York for special workshops at The Juilliard School.[11]

CEO of Nord Anglia Education, Andrew Fitzmaurice, has criticized today's education for focusing too much on league tables and wants to "inspire children to engage with all their studies and develop a love of learning" through the Juilliard collaboration.[12]
