Taxonomy

Bythocytheridae was named by Sars (1928). It is extant.

It was assigned to Cytheroidea by Hazel and Holden (1971), Crasquin (2008), Babinot and Colin (2011), Sebe et al. (2013), Cabral et al. (2014), Forel (2017), Forel (2017) and Tanaka (2018).

Maximum range based only on fossils: base of the Givetian to the top of the Early/Lower Pliocene or 387.70000 to 3.60000 Ma

Minimum age of oldest fossil (stem group age): 382.7 Ma
