Celebrity Treasure Island 2019

Upon their arrival on the Island, the 16 celebrities will be divided into two opposing camps, – Mako (blue) and Kahu (yellow), separated by half a kilometre of beach.

Together, these teams will have learn to work together, rationing supplies, building shelter, and strategizing for the challenges ahead.

Each team will have a captain who holds all the power – safe from going home themselves, they will also have the final say as to who goes up for elimination from the island.

But not for long! Each week the losing team from the Team Face Off must vote in a new captain.

The stakes are high, the quarters are close and the temperature sweltering – who will be able to handle the heat?

Throughout their time on the Island the castaways will compete against one another in a series of formidable challenges.

With Charity Challenges offering cash prizes for the castaway’s chosen charities, Team Face Offs pitting the two camps against each other in a fight for supplies, and Elimination Battles whittling down the numbers, expect tears, trantrums, twists and a ton of fun.

Designed to test the celeb's brains, brawn and endurance, these dramatic showdowns will push the castaways to the limit - but who among them can handle the jandle?

It’s not all fun and games, however – and with each celebrity fighting hard for the chance to win their chosen charity some serious dough, the grand prize will be at the forefront of everyone’s minds.

In addition to smaller cash rewards for challenges throughout the season, the ultimate goal on Celebrity Treasure Island is finding the hidden treasure chest, filled with a whopping $100,000 cash buried somewhere on the island.

Winning clues throughout the competition, the castaways will have to use their brains and their brawn to discover the location of this bountiful booty – and whichever celeb’s spade is the first to hit the chest will nab the entire lot for their charity.

The 16 celebrities were retired athletes and radio/TV personalities who were separated into two tribes with te reo Māori names based on fauna of New Zealand: Mako (Shortfin Shark) and Kāhu (Swamp Harrier), including the merged tribe as Kākāriki (parakeets).

The 16 contestants were: Boxer Shane Cameron; former Canterbury and All Black winger, Zac Guildford; DJ Athena Angelou; Olympic champion board sailor Barbara Kendall; Olympic champion rower and road cycling time trialist, Eric Murray; former rugby league star and coach Gary 'The Wiz' Freeman; actress Jodie Rimmer; Former Shortland Street star Karl Burnett (retired due to mental exhaustion); singer Ladi6; fitness model and middle-distance runner Lana Van Hout; former Bachelor contestant Lily McManus; TVNZ morning show weatherman Matty McLean; former weatherman, children show host and current DJ Sam Wallace; Moses Mackay of SOL3 MIO; influencer, model and former charity boxer Roseanna Arkle; and former C4 host and DJ turned yoga instructor, Shannon Ryan.
