History
The company was initially founded by Bobby Bao, Gary Or, Kris Marszalek, and Rafael Melo in 2016 as "Monaco". It is a trademark of Foris DAX Asia Pte. Ltd, a subsidiary of Foris DAX MT (Malta) Limited.
In 2021, the company purchased the naming rights to Staples Center in Los Angeles, paying a reported $700 million to change the name to Crypto.com Arena for 20 years.[3] The name change takes effect on December 25, 2021.[4] Crypto.com also has notable sponsorship deals with Formula One, Serie A, the UFC, Paris Saint-Germain F.C., the Philadelphia 76ers,[5] the Montreal Canadiens,[3] and signed Hollywood Star Matt Damon as brand ambassador.[6]
Domain
The domain crypto.com was registered in 1993 by cryptography researcher and professor Matt Blaze. The highly-sought after domain name Crypto.com sold for an undisclosed sum to cryptocurrency company Monaco in 2018.
