It is notable for Cusworth Hall, an 18th century country house, located adjacent to the village. Some buildings in the historic village can be dated back to the 16th century.
Together with Sprotbrough, approximately 1 mile to the south, it forms the civil parish of Sprotbrough and Cusworth.
It has one public house which is The Mallard, on Cusworth Lane. There is a bistro at Cusworth Hall, named Butlers' Tea Room & Bistro, alongside a microbrewery.
Cusworth adjoins the suburban areas of Scawsby and Scawthorpe to the north and east. Countryside surrounds the village to the south and west, separating it from the villages of Sprotbrough and Melton Brand. The A1(M) motorway Doncaster Bypass runs to the west; the nearest access is via the A635 road at Marr.
