Deepak Hooda

Deepak Jagbir Hooda (born 19 April 1995) is an Indian cricketer who plays for Baroda cricket team. He is an all-rounder who bats right-handed and bowls right-arm off break. He played for the India Under-19 cricket team at the 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He was handed an IPL contract by the Rajasthan Royals in February 2014. He currently plays for Punjab Kings in the IPL.

Early life

Born to Jajbir Hooda, a Airforce personnel and services player for kabaddi himself, junior Hooda was active in sports since childhood. He started playing cricket when he was in school. He played at senior level at the age of 14 when he represented Kendriya Vidyalaya U-17 cricket team in the SGFI in the year 2009. He was a wicket-keeper batsman earlier and then, he became a batting all-rounder.

Domestic career

According to his coach, Sanjiv Sawant, Hooda is a "very accurate bowler".[2] Hooda is also known to be an agile fielder.[3] In his second match in IPL for Rajasthan Royals vs Delhi Daredevils he scored 54 off 25 balls and bowled 0 for 20 in four overs and became the Man of the match. In the Third Match against Mumbai Indians he got his Place as a two down Batsman and he scored 13 off 4 balls which secured Rajasthan Royals an easy chase of 165 against Mumbai Indians.

He scored his first double-century in first-class cricket playing for Baroda in the fourth round of the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy.[4]

In January 2018, he was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2018 IPL auction.[5] He was released by the Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the 2020 IPL auction.[6] In the 2020 IPL auction, he was bought by the Kings XI Punjab ahead of the 2020 Indian Premier League.[7]

International career

In November 2017, Hooda was named in India’s squad for their Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Sri Lanka.[8]

In February 2018, Hooda was named in India's Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the 2018 Nidahas Trophy, but he did not play.[9] In December 2018, he was named in India's team for the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup.[10]
