Denver CIF team

The Denver CIF team is a proposed professional indoor football team based in Denver, Colorado, that was announced to begin play as a member of Champions Indoor Football for the 2022 season. The team did not secure home venue prior to scheduling the 2022 season.

History

The team would be the fourth indoor/arena football team to call Denver home, following the Denver Dynamite (1987–1991), Colorado Wildcats (1998) and Colorado Crush (2003–2008).

On August 12, 2021, the CIF announced an expansion team in Denver for the 2022 season.[1] The organization used a name-the-team contest that began on August 13 with name nominations, followed by a 24-name tournament consisting of various rounds.[2] The three names that made the finals were the Colorado Cannibals, Denver Dynamite, and Mile High Monsters. Polls closed on September 10 with the winning name yet to be announced.[3]

On September 9, team owner and president Mitch Bascom was interviewed and stated they had not been able to secure a home venue for the 2022 season. The organization had been planning to play at the Denver Coliseum, but at the time of league scheduling it was still closed to events indefinitely as it was being used a homeless shelter during the COVID-19 pandemic.[4][5] The Colorado team was not included on the 2022 CIF schedule announced on September 30, 2021.[6]
