Dornier Do 231

The Dornier Do 231 was a VTOL cantilevered shoulder-wing aircraft with swept wings and a T-tail.

The aircraft was created as a result of a design competition, conducted by the German Federal Ministry of Economics, to create a 100-person VTOL in the early 1970s. Dornier's proposal was based upon the earlier Dornier Do 31. However, the 1973 oil crisis prevented the plane from entering production as the high fuel necessary for vertical takeoff and landing wasn't economical. [1]
