Elmar Gasimov

Elmar Gasimov (Azerbaijani: Elmar Qasimov, born 2 November 1990) is an Azerbaijani judoka, who competes in the -100 kg division. He has competed at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics and won a silver medal in 2016.[1][2][3] He has also won a bronze at the 2017 World Championships,[3] and a silver (2014)[4] and two bronze medals (2012 and 2019) at European level.[5][6]

He also won a gold medal at the 2009 European Youth Championship in Yerevan, after defeating Lukáš Krpálek in the final.[7][8] He later lost to Krpálek in the finals of the 2014 European Championships and of the 2016 Olympics.[1]

Gasimov narrowly missed out on a second bronze medal at the 2019 World Championships, losing to Aaron Wolf with 33 seconds left in the bronze medal match.[9] He began practising judo in 1999.[4]
