Eric van der Burg
Eric van der Burg (born 9 October 1965) is a Dutch politician and member of the VVD Party. He has served as a member of the First Chamber of the States General of the Netherlands since June 2019.[1]

Early life and education
Van der Burg was born in Amsterdam, North Holland, but spent his childhood in Friesland. Van der Burg later moved back to Amsterdam where he currently resides. For secondary education, van der Burg participated in the VWO program at Augustinus College. After graduating, van der Burg attended the Free University of Amsterdam from 1984 until July 1981 where he obtained a degree in law. [1][2]
Early career
Van der Burg began his political career in 1987, when he served as a local Councilor in the Amsterdam district of Zuidoost. In 2001, van der Burg became a City Councilor for Amsterdam and remained in that role until 2010. Then, from 2014 until 2017, van der Burg served two terms as a City Alderman where he was made the manager of Health and Welfare, the Elderly, Sport and Recreation, Spatial Planning, Airports, and Land Management for his district of Zoidoost. In 2017, van der Burg replaced the previous Mayor of Amsterdam, Kajsa Ollongren, and was given the post of acting Mayor for three months. After his stint as Mayor, van der Burg returned to work as a City Councilor until 2019.[2][3][4]
Senate
In June 2019, van der Burg was elected to First Chamber of the States General of the Netherlands, where he currently serves. Throughout his time on the Senate, van der Burg has served on several different committees. From December 2020 until February 2021, van der Berg served as the Vice-Chairman of the temporary Research Proposal Committee for a Parliamentary Inquiry into Discrimination in the Netherlands. That committee's proposal for an inquiry was accepted, and van der Burg now serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on Discrimination in the Netherlands.[1][4]
