Ferrisburgh–Vergennes station

Ferrisburgh–Vergennes is a park and ride lot, Vermont Translines bus stop, and planned Amtrak train station in Ferrisburgh, Vermont, adjacent to the city of Vergennes. The train station is expected to begin service by summer 2022 when the Ethan Allen Express is extended from Rutland to Burlington. The station has one low-level side platform to the east of the single track.

History

Vergennes's historic train station closed in 1953 when the Rutland Railroad discontinued passenger service to the town.

Since 2014, Vermont Translines has run intercity motorcoach service from Albany to Burlington via U.S. Route 7, stopping at the Ferrisburgh Park and Ride. The company later added train connections at Albany–Rensselaer station as part of the Amtrak Thruway network.[2]

In the 2010s, the dilapidated Vergennes Station House was moved 1,000 feet (300 m) up the rail line from Vergennes to the Ferrisburgh Park and Ride facility and then completely rehabilitated.[3] The updated building was to serve as a visitor center, office space, and eventually a train station.[4] It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in May 2021.[5]

In October 2019, construction on the platform was underway.[6] By December 2020, the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) called the station "substantially complete,"[7] and in November 2021 said the only thing left to do was find a station agent.[8]
