Ghosts (2021 TV series)

• Rose McIver as Samantha Arondekar, a freelance journalist who, after an accident that leaves her close to death, revives with the ability to see and hear ghosts everywhere.[4]
• Utkarsh Ambudkar as Jay Arondekar, Samantha's husband and an unemployed chef.[4]

• Brandon Scott Jones as Captain Isaac Higgintoot, a closeted gay American Revolutionary officer[5] who died of dysentery[6] two weeks after the siege of Fort Ticonderoga[7] and is a footnote in history.[7] He is based on the Captain of the original British series.
• Richie Moriarty as Pete Martino, a Boy Scout leader[5] who died in 1985 from being shot through the neck with an arrow.[6] He is based on Pat Butcher of the original British series.
• Asher Grodman as Trevor, the most recently deceased of the ghosts, a wealthy, hard-partying Wall Street trader[5] who died not wearing pants. Unlike other ghosts, he can interact with the physical world by putting great effort into moving small objects or pressing buttons.[6] He is based on Julian Fawcett MP of the original British series.
• Rebecca Wisocky as Hetty Woodstone, the lady of the manor, the original owner of the Woodstone country estate.[4] She is based on Lady Fanny Button of the original British series.
• Sheila Carrasco as Susan Montero, a.k.a Flower, a hippie[4] who died while trying to befriend a wild bear.[7] She has the power to put a living person in a trance, as if under the influence of marijuana, if she passes though them.[8]
• Danielle Pinnock as Alberta Haynes, a dramatic flapper singer[5] who died from drinking poisoned moonshine.[9] Her singing can be heard by the living. [6]
• Roman Zaragoza as Sasappis, a cynical Lenape Native American.[4]
• Devan Chandler Long as Thorfinn, a Viking and the oldest of the ghosts who died of a lightning strike. He has the ability to make lights flicker.[6]

• Hudson Thames as Crash, a 1950s-era James Dean style ghost who was decapitated.[10] The character has so far only appeared in 'Pilot' and briefly in the background of 'Halloween', but CBS has suggested he may return in future episodes. [11]

In addition to the main ghosts, the mansion houses a group of ghosts who died of cholera and occupy the basement. Their sickly appearances disturb the upstairs ghosts. The total number is uncertain, but there are at least five, two of which have been named within the series (Stuart and Creepy Dirk), with the remaining three being listed in the credits. They are based on the Plague ghosts of the original British series.

On November 29, 2019, CBS announced that they were developing an adaptation of the BBC One series Ghosts.[24] On February 4, 2020, it was announced that the pilot had been picked up by CBS Studios and was co-produced with BBC Studios and Lionsgate Television.[25] On March 31, 2021, it was announced that the adaptation has been picked up for a full series.[26] In July 2021, it was announced that the series would premiere as a Thursday-night entry on October 7, 2021.[2] On September 23, 2021, CBS changed the premiere to back-to-back episodes.[27] On October 21, 2021, CBS gave the series a full season order.[3] On December 17, 2021, it was reported that production had been temporarily shut down due to a positive case of the COVID-19 on the set of the series.[28]

On March 4, 2020, Rose McIver was cast in a leading role for the pilot.[29] On July 1, 2020, Utkarsh Ambudkar was cast in a main role for the pilot.[30] On December 9, 2020, Brandon Scott Jones, Richie Moriarty, Asher Grodman, Rebecca Wisocky, Sheila Carrasco, Danielle Pinnock and Roman Zaragoza were cast in main roles for the pilot.[31] On May 12, 2021, Devan Chandler Long joined the cast as a series regular.[32]

The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported a 94% approval rating with an average rating of 7.4/10, based on 17 critic reviews. The website's critics consensus reads, "Ghosts could stand to ask more of its characters, but an excellent ensemble and a genial wit make for easy, softly spooky viewing."[33] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned a score of 72 out of 100 based on 10 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[34]
