Jalgaon
Jalgaon (
pronunciation ) is a city in western India. The city is located in northern Maharashtra, and serves as the administrative headquarter of the Jalgaon district. Jalgaon is known as "Banana City of India" as the region contributes approximately two-thirds of Maharashtra's banana production.[3] Jalgaon is also famous for its massive production of gold jewellery and because of that Jalgaon is also known as Gold city of Maharashtra.[4]

Jalgaon city is about 225 meters above sea level. The Girna River flows through the western part of the city. Jalgaon is the city in Khandesh region. In 1906 Khandesh was divided in East Khandesh and West Khandesh then Jalgaon became the headquarter of East Khandesh District.[5] East Khandesh covering the territory that is now Jalgaon District. After the 1956 reorganisation of India's states, East Khandesh became part of Bombay State and Later in 1960 it became part of Maharashtra State.
Tourist attractions
Gandhi Teerth is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Jalgaon City. It is a research institution and museum based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. It was established on 25 March 2012 by Gandhi Research Foundation. [6]
Transport
Jalgaon airport was built in 1973 by the Public Works Department.[7] The Jalgaon Municipal council took over its operations in April 1997 and handed it over to the Maharashtra Airport Development Company in April 2007.[8] The Government of Maharashtra signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Airports Authority of India (AAI) to upgrade the existing airfield in July 2009.[9] The then President of India, Pratibha Patil laid the foundation stone for the development and expansion of the Jalgaon airport in June 2010.[10] Jalgaon has two flights one for Mumbai and one for Ahemdabad operated by Trujet airlines.
The city is served by Jalgaon Junction railway station. The railway connects the region to New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.
Education

North Maharashtra University is located 8 km away from the city center. Prominent Under/post-graduate colleges in city are Mooljee Jetha College and Nutan Maratha College. Engineering and polytechnic colleges include School of Computer Science at NMU, University Department of Chemical Technology at NMU, Government College of Engineering, Government Polytechnic, Shram Sadhana Bombay Trust's College Of Engineering and G. H. Raisoni College of Engineering and Management.
Jalgaon has two medical colleges – Government Medical College and Dr. Ulhas Patil Medical College and Hospital, Jalgaon.[11]
Climate
Jalgaon has a hot semi-arid climate (Köppen BSh) owing to the rain shadow of the Western Ghats. There are three seasons: the sweltering, arid “hot” season from March to mid-June, the hot, steamy “wet” under the monsoon from mid-June to September, and the hot, dry “cool” season from October to February.

Economy
The economy of Jalgaon city is mostly depends on agriculture, manufacturing, industrial and service sectors.
Some major industries in city
1. Gold : Jalgaon is known for its massive production of gold jewellery. Gold of Jalgaon is supposed to be of the purest form. There are more than 25,000 goldsmiths working in gold jewellery manufacturing in the city. As a result, Jalgaon city came to be known as the Gold City.
2. Pulse : There are many pulse (Daal) mills in Jalgaon city. because of that Jalgaon is known for its large scale of pulse marketing.
3. PVC : Jalgaon manufactures many PVC products, viz. pipes & fittings, irrigation systems. Alongside PVC, some producers produce products in parallel materials like PE and HDPE also.
4. Cotton : Areas of Jalgaon district and surroundings contributes a major role in cotton production.
5. PP mats : Jalgaon city also has many factories which manufactures PP mats on a large scale.
6.Edible Oil :There are many edible oil manufacturers in Jalgaon city.
Other industries in Jalgaon city include plastic products, chemical products, food products, food processing, paper products, saw mills, cosmetics, electrical components.
